POWER SCHOOL – We are pleased to announce that our Power
School program is now online. Parents will be able to access their
children’s progress on the Power School program once they
have attended an in-service and received the passwords for their
children’s accounts. To do this, they should contact Mrs.
Sisco right away for more details on accessing the program. They
may get her at nsisco@esu4.org or they may call her at the school
number. Mr. Adams may also be contacted at jadams@esu4.org or
called at the school number.
HOMECOMING – Lewiston Homecoming week was October 4-8.
Hallway decorating occured on Sunday afternoon, October 3. Monday
was “Decade Dress” Day. A bonfire and pep rally after
the volleyball game (around 8:30 p.m.) concluded Monday’s
activities. Tuesday was Royalty Dress-Up Day; Wednesday was
Favorite Character Day; Thursday was Color Day and Friday will be
Spirit Day. The homecoming football game wase against Pawnee City
at 7:00 p.m. on Friday on our football field. Thirty minutes
following the conclusion of the game, the homecoming coronation
took place in the old gymnasium, followed by the homecoming dance.
See the slide show for a look at the week in pictures.
NO SCHOOL ON OCTOBER 18 – October 18 is scheduled on the
school calendar as a day without school. We will be using that day
as a teacher in-service day at the end of our first quarter of
school. Please remember to mark that day on your calendars.
NO SCHOOL FOR 7-12 on FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 5 – this is your
first notice that we will have school for only grades K-6 on
Friday, November 5. Mrs. Ebeler and our FCCLA are hosting the
District FCCLA Conference on that day and we will need the
secondary rooms and teachers to accommodate that conference, so
there will be no school for students in grades 7-12. K-6 will have
a regular school day, with bus routes both morning and
afternoon.
FALL ACTIVITIES – the varsity girls’ volleyball team
is enjoying a very good season up to this date. They are 12-2 and
rated 2nd in both the Omaha World-Herald and the Lincoln
Journal-Star. They travel to Falls City Sacred Heart for a match on
Sept. 30 and have two triangular matches the week of Oct. 4-8.
Seniors Bobbi Tennant, Renee Coudeyras, Katie Laflin, Lacey Hill,
and Laura Schmidt are leading the way, with large contributions
from Whitney Hippen, Kelly Flesner, Savannah Wenzl, and Nicole
Hippen. The Pioneer Conference Tournament will be the week of
October 25-29, with the sub-districts and district final the
following week. The girl’s golf team has had modest success
this fall. Samantha Stake and Cyndie Gaddy have been the leading
scorers for the team. Their District Meet is coming up October 4-5.
Good luck to them in Districts. The varsity football team is
presently 2-2, with wins over Meridian and Omaha Brownell-Talbot
and losses to Nemaha Valley and Friend. They have district games
the next four weeks against Freeman, Pawnee City, Johnson-Brock and
HTRS and still have a good shot at winning their district. Leading
contributors to the team have been seniors Tyler Bursovsky, Ryan
Baker, and Tyler Wehrbein. Tyler Bursovsky has two kickoff returns
for touchdowns and is our leading pass receiver. Tyler Wehrbein is
our leading rusher and had 27 tackles against Friend on defense.
Other top players have been Cody Howell, Chris Mitchell, Holden
Rees, Dustin Spilker, Wyatt Tegtmeier, Kyle Knoche, Brian Weyers,
Nick Thomas, Ryan Thomas, Dustin Knippelmeyer, and James Tuttle.
First round of the football playoffs is on Thursday, October 28,
with the site to be determined on Oct. 24.
NEW IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENT – the State Department of
Health is now requiring school children to have a dose of varicella
(chicken pox) vaccine, in addition to the other vaccines needed.
Students entering Kindergarten and 7th grade and all students
transferring from out of state must present evidence of this
vaccination. It must have been done after 12 months of age and
prior to age 13. If over 13 years of age 2 doses of varicella are
needed, separated by at least one month. Please bring in written
documentation from your child’s physician. Students in most
other grades will also eventually need a verification of this
immunization, so if you need a form for reporting your
child’s status, call the school office.
